Communication style
Nobody should underestimate Sarah Palin. Whilst commentators like to criticise her for her lack of experience and knowledge on the political stage, this is to dismiss the time she has spent on the 'ground' in Alaska. She has a potent cocktail of coming across as Mrs Everyman, able to connect with the voter on a human level, justifying her ignorance on certain issues and at the same time deliver some polished debating knock out blows. This particular video analysis comes from the New York Times - thanks to Marjorie Van Halteren for pointing it out. It offers an interesting analysis of both candidates from a communications standpoint. Futher analysis can be found in the NY Times. Additional analysis, post debate, can be found in this excellent video from Alison Snale, the French based correspondent for the International Herald Tribune. She underscores the growing divorce between these political events and the current economic and financial reality surrounding them. Finally for those keen to view the entire debate, this interactive link should suffice.
