We've had the Blackberry Prayer, some of us have the Blackberry Squint (why is that text so small?), now come January 20th we'll see the Blackberry Cold Turkey. Often the only link between him and the outside world, Barack Obama is being advised to cut the umbilical cord and give up his Blackberry once he becomes President. On that day he becomes subject to the Presidential Records Act which puts all presidential correspondance up for public scrutiny. Despite all the perks, responsibilities and power that will be his, Obama will find himself cut off from the one tool most consider a vital part of their executive's survival kit, though he will keep his laptop, apparently. It also helped him received unfiltered communications (news clippings, surveys, memos) during the campaign and arguably played a key role in keeping him and his team so rapidly reactive. He still works the social media, however, his democratic radio address is soon to be videotaped and will be archived on You Tube.
